LifeScore™: what a nutritional score really measures
A synthetic score is not a verdict: it is a map. Here is how Nutrilayer turns habits, biometrics and context into a metric you can read in ten seconds.
When we talk about nutritional intelligence the first question is always the same: what does a score like LifeScore™ actually measure? The answer is less trivial than it sounds, because every metric condenses hundreds of variables into a single number, and transparency about that number is what separates a serious tool from a toy. The trust of a customer, a nutritionist or a retail buyer is not won by showing a value: it is won by explaining how that value is built, what it ignores, and where it has margin for error.
LifeScore™ aggregates four main dimensions: macronutrient balance against individual needs, weekly food variety, choice quality (nutritional density versus caloric density) and behavioral context (meal timing and frequency, hydration, declared sleep). Each dimension is weighted differently based on the profile: an endurance athlete, a sedentary person over 60 and a pregnant woman are not compared against the same grid. The system always starts from the individual profile, not from a national average.
The database behind the score is proprietary: over 18,000 Italian and international foods, each with a validated nutritional profile. When a new food enters the system it is processed by an AI classifier trained on CREA, USDA and Open Food Facts, then approved or corrected by a nutritionist from our scientific panel. No score is generated automatically without human oversight, and every revision is tracked with version, author and rationale, so the history of each food is fully reconstructable.
The computation follows a three-level structure. First: normalization of raw data (portions, frequencies, composition). Second: application of profile-specific weights, with corrections for age, sex, activity level and stated goals. Third: comparison with reference clusters built on real populations, not on theoretical models. It is in this third step that the score acquires meaning: it tells how close or far a person is from the habits of those with measurably better outcomes at the same profile.
The final number, from 0 to 100, is only the beginning. Under the LifeScore™ the customer finds four specific indicators (hydration, fiber, protein, meal balance) and three concrete personalized actions for the following week. A score without actions is a judgement; a score with actions is a tool. Actions are recomputed weekly based on new data, so the system tracks behavior evolution instead of repeating the same generic advice forever.
An important note on limits. LifeScore™ is not a diagnostic tool, does not replace a doctor or a licensed nutritionist, and does not pretend to. It is a behavioral compass that helps read habits in a structured way, and it becomes powerful when used in dialogue with a professional. That is why we built a dedicated nutritionist view that receives the full weekly picture from the client (with explicit consent) and can intervene far more precisely than the classic paper diary.
For our retail partners, the aggregated LifeScore™ (always anonymous, never individual) becomes a map of a customer base's habits: where education is needed, where assortment opportunities lie, which categories are under-represented, which are hypertrophic versus real demand. It is real intelligence, not simple analytics: every aggregate indicator is designed to become a category management decision.
The next step, already on the roadmap, is integrating LifeScore™ with optional biometric data from wearables and periodic blood tests. The score will remain interpretable and transparent but will become even more calibrated on the individual. The goal is not to build the perfect metric but the most useful one: the one that moves behavior, not just numbers.
